On February 29, the music and drama room “OratoriO” will host the original music and poetry concert “Vārsmas” by the young composer, poet and singer Vaidas Voveres. For this program, she has been nominated for the “Kilograms of Culture” award in the Starts category.
“Poems are my inspirations and doubts at the same time. It is my weakness that tends to be the greatest gift and the heaviest burden. Creating such a program was a huge test and revelation, but I believe that real art requires the courage and vulnerability of the creator,” Vaida Vovere believes.
At one time, the role of Baiba in the musical “Pūt, vējini!” by Kārlis Lāčas. performed by Vaida Vovere in August 2023 with the concert “Vārsmas” announced herself as a composer and poet. In December, the video for the song “Lūgšana” was also released, which is like an intercession for women during the war and was made in cooperation with the young professionals of the Film School of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LKA).
Vaida Vovere’s music puts language in the foreground – with her poetry, she was the laureate of the literary contests “Aicinajus” and “Ojāras Vācieš Pārdaugava Literary Award”, she also graduated from the Literary Academy’s seminar for young and beginner authors under the guidance of poets Ronald Briež and Katrīna Rudzīte. The music features the sounds of folk, Broadway and West End musicals, as well as the search for one’s own unique voice, but the themes are different. “My music is currently about growing up in a scary and incomprehensible world, mutual relationships and most importantly – relationships with yourself. By rhyming and composing, I build something comprehensible out of chaos. With this concert program, I am also trying to invite people to listen to each other and try to understand and empathize,” said Vaida.
Together with the author, musicians who belong to the jazz and musical department of the Riga Cathedral Choir School will take the stage.
