The couple Elin Sjöström, 26, and Mattias Frisk, 27, have long dreamed of a newly built house. But when they did not find any turnkey houses that suited their needs – they decided to do everything from scratch.
Now, just over a year after the first sod, the 175-square-meter single-storey villa is in place.
The house has large beautiful windows with a view of Bosarydssjön which is located outside Svenarum in Småland’s Vaggeryd.
– When we designed the house, we did almost everything ourselves. We enlisted the help of an old architect that the family knows, but mostly to gain knowledge about how big a bathroom should be and the like, says Elin.

Done everything yourself
The couple has only hired companies that could help with professional assignments, such as tiling and plumbers.
– My partner is an electrician so he has been able to take care of it. Then we got help from the local carpentry company to erect the frame, otherwise we did everything ourselves, says Elin.
Do you have any knowledge before?
– I have no experience other than that I grew up in the country, on a farm. But I have learned a lot and it is great fun. But it has been a lot more paperwork than I thought it would be.
“Satisfied with everything”
It has now been four months since the couple moved in and now only the garden remains.
– Before there was a forest here, so we basically live on a mound of earth so there is of course a lot to do.
Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
– Now we have still lived here for four months and I am happy with everything. I have taken a lot of inspiration from different pages on Pinterest and people were a little worried that it would be chopped and ground. But I got the whole thing I wanted.
