VAERS and Adverse Vaccine Reactions

It is becoming increasingly clear that anti-COVID vaccination changed the course of the disease. The fourth wave starring omicron and now the fifth, have been by far the worst in terms of the number of new cases, but they have had much less mortality. If we were to see a graph with the five waves, the first one already seems small. But, if what is graphed are deaths, the first and second were the worst. However, some people do not accept reality and say that vaccines are harmful and that COVID was invented, so that later the companies would sell the vaccines. Of course, if they had seen what we experienced in the Institutes during 2020 and 2021, they would think differently and continue to be horrified.

One of the elements used by those who do not want to see reality is the documentation of adverse reactions that are recorded in the VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Effects Reporting System) of the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). A Dr. McCullough on social networks says that 13,388 deaths caused by vaccines have been registered as of June 22, which is false, but they believe him because this person says what they want to hear (as occurs in various human congregations). They clearly haven’t bothered to carefully analyze what VAERS is and how it works, which anyone can do on the CDC’s website (cdc.gov).

VAERS is a system made by the CDC, in conjunction with the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration), so that anyone, anyone, can report an adverse effect to any vaccine. The idea is that certain adverse reactions may not be detected until the vaccine is applied on a massive scale, and for this reason, the report is open to the population. It can be the patients themselves, their relatives, the health systems or the producers of the vaccines who make the report. These last two are required to do so by law. But the VAERS system is not designed to determine the causality of the vaccine in the reported adverse effect, but rather, to detect a pattern of events and, where appropriate, study the matter further.

Reports of adverse effects to VAERS have increased considerably since the end of 2020 when anticovid vaccination began. But never have so many people been vaccinated in such a short time and the vast majority are mild effects such as pain at the puncture site, local inflammation or itching and some are a little more serious such as fever on the day of vaccination. A report of an adverse event following a vaccine does not necessarily imply causality. Some people report disappointment in love, a traffic accident or failing a final exam as an adverse effect of the vaccine. There are thousands of deaths, heart attacks, pneumonia, cancers, gastroenteritis, thrombosis, etc. that happen every week. If someone gets vaccinated today and has a heart attack tomorrow, they may not be related. These cases will continue to exist, but they are not because of the vaccine.

The main problem with beliefs is that they accept temporal associations as causal, but the temporal relationship between two events is not enough for that. There was a time when we thought that dancing and praying or sacrificing maidens and offering their hearts to the deities brought us rain or sunrise the next day. A high percentage of the population has already left that time behind and lives in the 21st century. How to bring to this century those who stayed in the previous ones? This is a current challenge of humanity.
