New Delhi. Twelve children and two teachers died when their boat capsized in Harni Lake in Vadodara, Gujarat on Thursday afternoon. The other 10 people on the boat were saved. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over this accident. He said on social media platform X that I am disappointed by the incident of boat sinking in Harni Lake of Vadodara. I am with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I hope that the people injured in the accident will recover soon.
Along with expressing grief over the incident, Prime Minister Modi has also announced compensation for the families of the victims. He said that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the families of all the deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the injured from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Patel also expressed grief over the accident. He also reached Vadodara and met the families of the deceased. He also took information about the entire matter from the Collector of Vadodara. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 50 thousand to the injured.

Children came on school trip
The children who were victims of the accident in Harni Lake had come on a school trip. Here they were boating in the lake. During this time, he was trying to take a selfie, when he reached the very edge of the boat. Due to which the boat overturned due to loss of balance. In which 12 children and two teachers died due to drowning. While the rescue team was successful in saving 10 people including children.
The children did not wear life jackets
According to eyewitnesses, the children riding on the boat in the lake were not wearing life jackets. Vadodara District Education Officer Rakesh Vyas said that according to initial information, the school had not taken permission to visit the lake.
