Václav Postránecký: From Worker to Famous Actor

He was never meant to be an actor. This was not what his father wanted, who mostly wanted a good character image for his son. So Václav Postránecký he should be an employeewhich was rated very well under the previous system.

However, his father, as a passionate communist, “killed” his son, because he enrolled his son in an apprenticeship at Tesla Strašnice, where the young Václav met Vladimír Pucholt in the workshop, who came from a family that – only bourgeois. His father, as a doctor of law, first sat in a criminal prison, later he worked as a fireman at the then Realist Theater.

Be that as it may, Postránecký learned his skills, but he was always drawn to acting. He tried several small roles and when he met František Petterka at the age of seventeen and noticed his brushes, the decision was made. The famous actor realized that the young man was not having it easy at home and offered him to join the stage in Liberec. Postranecký happily accepted, however, that his salary was many times lower, what you would earn as a welder. He didn’t care, he finally found his own world where he was happy.

Very soon he traveled from Liberec to Uherské Hradiště, where he already got a real acting connection. He had great talent, which was clear to everyone around him. And it didn’t matter that he didn’t get into DAMU, because he only had a very short time to prepare. He made a name for himself, and his reputation grew bigger when he started playing in Brno. He was glad to return to Prague. He played in the Prague Municipal Theater, and later in the National Theater.

Important television roles came along with events in the city. In 1982, “rock” continued in the form of a comedy I like the world with you. Few people today know that it was Postránecký who made director Maria Poledňáková worry that she should not worry about the negative criticism of her peers. He was right, the film became a hit and is still loved by everyone today.

Although Postranecký became a star of the first magnitude, pride did not come. Maybe the other way around. The actor was still a small boy who is always working on himself and trying to improve. He remained among the cream of the crop even after 1989, when many of his colleagues had to “pack” and were no longer interested in them. On the other hand, Postránecký shone, appearing in famous series such as Doktoři z Pócátků.

But all the acting fame came second to him. The first row was clearly “taken over” by the family, which he never let go. He had two children with his wife Helena, Vilém and Helena. He met his wife at the age of twenty-three. They lived more than fifty years together. It also worked for them because they didn’t try to outdo each other.

In fact, it was only in the last years of his life that his wife tried to lead him in a different way than he himself wanted. She asked him to stop working as long as he listened. Unfortunately, it was too late. He could no longer beat esophageal cancer. But he wanted to spend his last days among those he loved. Postránecký left the hospital and went home to die in the family circle. “We had a lot of fun with you…” reading the inscription on his grave in Škranice cemetery. That’s just how it was.
