In the Weekend Breakfast studio, Václav and Jan Neckář recalled how they spent Easter in their boyhood years. “Once we set a record in Ústí nad Labem, where we caroled all morning and brought home 150 hard-boiled eggs,” says Jan Neckář. “I suspect that we then ate them until the holidays,” he adds.
Václav Neckár, who will perform several performances in the spring and summer, also has a big birthday concert waiting for him. It will most likely take place at the Hybernia Theater on October 22, i.e. on the eve of the singer’s 80th birthday. Václav and his brother Jan expect to welcome a number of interesting guests on the spot.
Václav Neckář also recalled his film roles in Weekend Breakfast. In addition to the Oscar-winning Watched Trains, for example, in 1969 he also filmed Skrivánka na niti, directed by Jiří Menzel. But the film ended up in the vault under communism. “Then I didn’t get to see Barrandov very much,” Václav clarifies.
He also participated in one film shooting on August 21, 1968, i.e. during the entry of not only Soviet occupation troops into the then Czechoslovakia. That day, the singer was with the filmmakers in the Caucasus. “We heard on the radio that they were so-called liberating us, and we started to strike. The entire staff was then taken to Prague,” said Václav.
And he also recalled how the singing trio Golden Kids was formed in November of the same year. The trio Václav Neckář, Marta Kubišová and Helena Vondráčková already had successful performances in France and decided to continue together under the new name.
