One of the stars of the Slavík presentation on Friday was this year’s jubilant Václav Neckář, although he can no longer compete with the stars of today’s pop scene. He did, however, make it to the Hall of Fame.
Neckář did not have Slavík until this year, because at the time of his greatest glory, Karel Gott was the hegemon. This wrong, if you can call it that, was rectified only on Friday, when he entered the hall of fame as part of the Czech Nightingale. He even performed with the Bacily group during the festive evening.
A month ago, Neckář celebrated his round 80th birthday with a concert in Prague’s Hybernia theater, where he invited his colleague and long-time friend Marta Kubišová or the frontman of the band Chinaski, Michal Malátný.
Neckár’s younger brother Jan then recalled that when Václav was starting out, he was asked during school discussions when he would stop singing. “And I always said that they would have to shoot me off the stage,” recalled the October birthday himself.
So fans don’t have to worry about an early end to a highly successful career. After all, Neckář also overcame major health problems that befell him twenty years ago.
