He shone on the stage with a silver crown. He would spin the microphone stand while singing the biggest hits and bow deeply to the audience after the songs ended. They gave him a long round of applause. Music and acting legend Václav Neckář celebrated his eightieth birthday on Saturday at the Soundtrack festival in Poděbrady. How else than a concert composed of his greatest hits.

Between songs, the visibly moved singer complemented the moderator Miloš Pokorný, who recalled songs and films associated with Neckár. “The film was made in 1969, but it was in the vault for many years. We won the Golden Bear only in 1990 in Berlin,” recalled Václav Neckář about the film Skrivánci na niti. “It’s still good with dates and names. But it’s worse with the lyrics,” added the singing legend.

Together with the band Bacily and a string quartet, they mainly presented hits associated with film and fairy tale productions. Whether it was films in which Václav Neckář acted, or songs sung by him were heard in them.

To the delight of hundreds of spectators in Poděbrady for example, the songs “I bought that guitar because of you”, “Shadow of cathedrals”, “Ša-la-la-la-li”, “Who enters your dreams, my love” or “Pej mi ruku and I’ll pass Václavák” were performed. As part of the encore, Neckář sang one of his biggest post-revolutionary hits, Midnight.
