Vaccini, Umbria reduces vaccination stocks to professors and law enforcement agencies
The regional operational committee decided, at its last meeting, to reduce the stock percentage of the AstraZeneca vaccine from 50 to 30 percent in order to start vaccinating all school and law enforcement staff as soon as possible. A choice also dictated by the rather long times (75 days) for the administration of the second dose, and therefore such as to be able to guarantee the reconstitution of the same stocks, without compromising the second vaccine.

During the same session it was also decided to send a letter to the extraordinary Commissioner for the coronavirus emergency, Domenico Arcuri, signed by the two regional directors Claudio Dario (Health) and Stefano Nodessi (Infrastructure and civil protection), to reiterate – and support – the request for a rapid supply for Umbria of 50,000 vaccines, already formalized by the President of the Umbria Region, Donatella Tesei, also to the Minister for Health, Roberto Speranza, on the occasion of his recent visit to Umbria. Request motivated by the epidemiological trend that has seen a considerable increase in the circulation of the virus, especially in the province of Perugia. The “red areas”, in fact – in the opinion of the Cor – cannot be supplied with vaccines with the criterion of proportionality with the population, but must have greater supplies able to extinguish the “fire in progress” and prevent the virus from spreading. propagate to other territories.
However, Astrazeneca has communicated to the Regions a 15% cut in the doses of the vaccine to be delivered starting next week. The topic was also at the center of the discussion at the Conference of the Regions, which took place in the afternoon. Astrazeneca responded by ensuring that “Is working to meet the commitment to deliver 4.2 million doses to Italy in the first quarter, with the aim of exceeding 5 million”.
The company explains the reason for the cut: “The manufacturing processes for this vaccine are complex, and a multitude of manufacturing factors and quality tests that are meticulously done on each batch can impact the date, frequency and number of doses of each delivery. For this reason, the delivery made on Friday was about 7% lower than expected, but similarly the previous week’s deliveries were slightly higher than expected. Unfortunately we work without any reservations that can give us the margin to manage the normal variability of the production process since each dose produced is immediately made available. We are in constant contact with Commissioner Arcuri in order to keep him updated in time ”.
