Arezzo, February 17, 2021 – Family doctors are serious. The “lions” of the flu vaccination, especially in the large numbers edition at the end of 2020, have entered the field against Covid. Symbolically Monday, in Arezzo, at the Casa della Salute in via XXV Aprile. From today they begin to decline in strength. In one fell swoop there will be five other group medicines starting with vaccination.
A vaccination, we remember, that intervenes on the most fragile front: the over eighty. In the province at the last survey there were 29170. Absolute priority to the centenarians, who according to the figures are ninety. But as long as they aren’t stuck in the house. Because the most fragile of the fragile, those who are followed by territorial medicine, must be patient. The problem is always the same: vaccines.
If the GP goes with Pfizer then he can’t move it anymore and it becomes complicated to complete the six doses of a vial. The solution is Modern: but it is exactly the product that arrives sipped and that this week is late. “But our elderly – assures Dario Grisillo, secretary of the federation of general medicine – can rest assured: as soon as we have the right product we will arrive”.
The process is the same: it is the doctors who call and ask for membership. The regional platform is in the final touches and tweaks but today it should be perfectly functional. At that point, each doctor will have directly entered his own patients, from which to choose from time to time the six to be vaccinated. And it will do so, thanks to the experience accumulated over the years, with common sense. “We will summon six elders who are able to move.”
More reserves? No. «Given the age and the general situation, it would not make sense to have elderly people wait empty in the waiting rooms. But the useful hours after the preparation of the doses are six. We will limit ourselves to alerting two other eighty-year-olds out of the list of six, asking them to be ready for a possible call ». It was what the director of the Asl Antonio D’Urso himself hoped in giving space to family doctors: proximity to the best situations and solutions to be adopted.
From today the range of offices extends to the health houses of Anghiari, Poppi, Civitella, Castiglion Fiorentino and Castelfranco di Sopra. “But as early as next week we plan to mobilize at least all the health houses.” In practice, 40% of doctors revolve around those realities, sometimes with a “team” of up to eight associated doctors. Everyone at this stage will have one Pfizer vial per week, good for six patients.
We are still in small numbers but with six companies in action and we put on average as many doctors per structure, we would already be 216 people ready for the first injection. And this by lighting up for now only one of the “rockets” on which family medicine can count. For health houses, the ASL delivers the vials directly, for individual doctors they must be the ones to get them from the pharmacy.
However, within ten days the whole network, about 200 doctors in the province, will be on the field. Meanwhile yesterday the threshold of nine thousand first doses administered was exceeded: it is equivalent to 3% of the vaccinable population, considering that over 50 thousand are under the age of 18. We are still at dawn, it is clear: but it involves three different population groups. As if to say: sooner or later it could also touch us
