Vaccines Priority Needs Attention – FIN

JAKARTA – Eijkman Amin Soebandrio Director of the Institute for Molecular Biology (LBM) said the mobility factor or population movement needs to be considered in determining the priority scale for COVID-19 vaccination.

“The population of productive age and elderly are both important. Elderly people, if they are attacked by illness, they can be exposed to high immune system and congenital diseases, ”Amin said in an online discussion in Jakarta, Wednesday (17/3).

Meanwhile, the productive age group under 59 years of age are people who have a high level of mobility with a very high risk of being exposed to COVID-19. “The difference is that one elderly is at high risk. The other one of productive age is definitely exposed, “he added.

If the productive age groups are not protected, their role as agents of transmission can occur. “They can bring disease into the house. Those who do not have immunity can be exposed, ”he said.

In response to the limited availability of vaccines, a priority scale for vaccine recipients is required. The goal is that the target of communal immunity can be achieved optimally.

“If we can protect high-risk populations, how can we prevent them from bringing the virus into their homes. Because they are not sick, compared to those who are infected, “said Amin.

The reason for prioritizing productive age is so that they can protect vulnerable groups. “They are elderly have a small risk of exposure, than people who move out,” he concluded. (rh / fin)
