A mutation, however small, that could change the tables with the pandemic. While Great Britain is alarmed by the emergence of a new variant of Sars-Cov-2, there are already a hundred people who have “reported” their return from England to ASL3. The last flight from London landed at Colombo on Saturday with 150 passengers on board. But the case isn’t just about airborne returns. People who have returned from overseas must communicate this and it is mandatory for them to undergo a swab to check if they have been infected with the variant.
“They can do this by going directly to three centers where it is not necessary to show up with a reservation: they are those of Porta Siberia and Villa Bombrini in Genoa and the one set up in Recco”, explains ASL3. “A small group of people, less than ten returned from England before the swab was mandatory, preferred not to take the test and are on active surveillance for two weeks”, explains the ASL, while Professor Matteo Bassetti speaks of “too much noise, cacophonous and not to be listened to because vaccines work on this variant”.
The contagions
Liguria has declining numbers, but three clusters in the Savona area are worrying, where people are once again “fighting”, underlines the president of the Region, Giovanni Toti. And again the RSA are the most affected. An outbreak was discovered in Villa delle Rose in Noli, where 31 of 34 elderly people tested positive with 3 operators. This figure is added to that of the Suarez residence in Calizzano, where a positive physiotherapist infected 17 out of 60 guests and two other operators. The outbreak at the San Paolo hospital seems to be under control, where 12 asymptomatic and two positive patients were found with a screening activity.
The numbers say that in the province of Savona cases are increasing, even in the face of multiple swabs: 42 on Sunday, 72 yesterday, while Genoa breathes a sigh of relief because in the face of 1486 molecular tests and 1289 overall fast, 80 positives have been identified against the 169 on Sunday. In total there are 177 new cases of positivity, of which 4 in the Imperia area and 3 in the La Spezia area. The positives are down: 7553, 74 less than yesterday. The number of hospitalized patients is also decreasing: 758, 7 fewer. Patients in the Intensive are 70, those who died 14 and range from 51 to 90. Patients in home isolation drop, 5,830 (-240), while 5,915 are in active surveillance.
The vaccines
There are already 100 doctors, nurses and health professionals who have signed informed consent to undergo the injection on December 27, the day when the first 320 doses of Pfizer’s anti-Covid vaccine will arrive in Liguria, marking the symbolic beginning of the first phase of the campaign. “The first doses will arrive around 8 at San Martino – underlines Toti, announcing that within two days in Genoa the new ultra-fast swab will be presented, capable of identifying Covid positivity in 2-3 minutes – and 6 will be administered every hour. Then two RSAs will be chosen on the basis of the number of guests and employees and about fifty will be vaccinated in each one. Twenty general practitioners and pediatricians, a representative of the world of public assistance, the rest will go to the staff of San Martino “.
The maneuver
An agreement was signed between the Liguria Region and trade unions (CGIL, CISL and UIL) to lighten the tax burden on medium-low incomes. Also this year the Region inserts a deduction in the 2021 budget maneuver for all families with at least two dependent children with an income of up to € 28,000. A deduction of 35 euros is introduced for each dependent child, increased to 45 for each disabled child. The intervention is flanked by an instrument in favor of small businesses that suffered the heavy consequences caused by the economic crisis during 2020: a one-off non-repayable contribution dedicated to micro-enterprises belonging to the 0-1 employee range.
