Vaccines for pregnant women are safe, as long as 13 weeks of pregnancy have passed : Okezone Lifestyle

MOTHER Pregnant and lactating groups are indeed the groups that are entitled to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. This is also reinforced by the Ministry of Health issuing circular letter (SE) SE number HK.02.01/I/2007/2021 which is a technical guide for Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women.

Some of the instructions in the regulation include the vaccine brands recommended by the Ministry of Health, namely Pfizer and Moderna, as well as the Sinovac inactivated platform vaccine.

The first dose is given in the second trimester of pregnancy, and the second dose will be administered according to the interval of the vaccine type.

“The first dose of vaccine was given to be precise at 13 weeks of gestation and the second dose at 33 weeks of gestation,” said Dr. Nana Agustina Sp.OG as Head of Obgyn at RSA Bunda Jakarta as reported by Antara.

The reason is that pregnancy in the second trimester is considered the safest from the risks that endanger pregnancy.

“In the early trimester, it is usually the time for the formation of the fetus, so it is feared that there will be an impact, although there is no definite research yet, but given after 12 weeks is relatively safe, so if it is 33 weeks before delivery the patient has finished the vaccine, so if he gets Covid-19 it can be safe,” ” he said.

There are a number of conditions that are required through special screening for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers when they want to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

Among them is the vaccine given to those who have a body temperature below 37.5 degrees Celsius.

Pregnant women’s blood pressure should be below 140/90 mmHg. If the result is above 140/90 mmHg, then repeat the measurement with an interval of at least 10 minutes.

“If it is still high, it must be postponed,” he said.

In addition, Dr. Nana also said that pregnant women do not have pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy. This occurs because of the condition of increased blood pressure accompanied by the presence of protein in the urine. Preeclampsia is characterized by swollen feet, headache, heartburn, blurred vision, and blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg.

Pregnant women who want to be vaccinated must also be ensured that they do not have a history of severe allergies. Similarly, pregnant women who have diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, lung disease, HIV, hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism, chronic kidney disease, or liver disease.

“Comorbid diseases must be under control and there are no acute complications,” he said adding that pregnant women with autoimmune diseases must also be under control and there are no acute complications.

Lastly, pregnant women should not be infected with COVID-19. At least it has been negative within three months.
