Vaccines for older adults: anti-influenza to tetanus, reactions and what they are for – El Sol de México

The care and protection of older adults in Mexico must be punctual, because with increasing age the immune system tends to cheer up to respond to some disease.

The Health Secretary indicates that people older than 40 yearsare usually more likely to contract some type of illnessespecially in the pre-winter and winter season of Mexico.

According to authorities of Healthduring the period of September a Januarylos older adults are more likely to get influenza o develop pneumonia e even tetanus. This is due to the temperature changes that the country is going through in those months.

What vaccines should older adults get?

In this sense, it was announced which vaccination scheme older adults should follow in order to counteract the risk of becoming infected, as well as the reactions caused by each one of them.

1.- Anti-Influenza Vaccine

  • This drug should be applied, preferably, in the pre and winter season via intramuscular injection.
  • Your reaction may present with pain at the application site, slight swelling and increased temperature.

2.- Vaccine against pneumonia

  • The injection must be intramuscular and must have a booster every five years
  • The reaction to this drug may present with pain at the application site, swelling and increased temperature.

3.- Tetanus vaccine

  • The complete schedule for this vaccine should be two doses, with an interval of four weeks between the first and second injection. It must be applied intramuscularly and requires a reinforcement after 10 years.
