After the arrival of the vaccine in Indonesia, the narrative about installing a COVID-19 vaccine barcode on a person’s body became a hot topic of conversation among netizens on social media Facebook and Twitter, in early December 2020.
Some accounts on social media even mention the barcode code installed on the body in the form of a microchip. The following is one of the narratives on Facebook regarding the installation of the COVID-19 vaccine barcode:
“What has been worrying so far has become even more real, it is no longer about masks, viruses, let alone vaccines but rather the barcode that will stick to our bodies.”
Apart from spreading the narrative, the account owner also included a Kompas.com news screen conversation with the title “Covid-19 Vaccine Will Have a Barcode”.
The information is wrong, because the barcode is not in the form of a microchip and is not inserted into the human body, but will be embedded in the vaccine bottle.
Meanwhile, Bio Farma as a provider of the COVID-19 vaccine stated that the installation of a barcode on the vaccine bottle also serves to prevent counterfeit vaccines.
The barcode contains the COVID-19 vaccine identification number, expiration date, serial number, and so on.
