Vaccine under 65, from 15 March we leave in Liguria. But it won’t be done in the doctor’s office

Genoa. Change the plan for vaccination of people under 65 in Liguria: GPs will administer AstraZeneca doses, but not within their own practices.

As had already been announced, starting from March 9th school staff, traffic police, employees of the judicial offices and vulnerable people they can book with the attending physician, but to get vaccinated they will have to reach one of the 19 hub (but they could become more) that will be set up in the local health authorities throughout Liguria. It officially starts on March 15, 2023 with the aim of almost inoculating 5 thousand doses per day.

“We made this decision because it would be necessary to comply with a series of obligations – he explains Andrea Stimamiglio, Ligurian secretary of Fimmg, the federation of family doctors -. To administer the vaccines in the study, the Oxygen tank, the defibrillator and a series of measures that it is prudent to adopt even if allergic reactions to the vaccine are one in a million. We will always do the vaccines, but in the districts ”.

In Liguria there are 19 social and health districts, in the city of Genoa alone there are 6. In each of these, at least one vaccine point will be set up where eight doctors a day will operate, four in the morning and four in the afternoon, with a forecast of 250 daily doses. Each general practitioner will be busy on average for half a day a week, so as not to affect too much service to their patients.

“My fear – however Stimamiglio warns – is that we will find ourselves handling the calls of many people who will want to know if they can get vaccinated. Each of us has up to 1,500 patients under treatment, if each of them calls it will be difficult to manage them ”. Each family doctor at this stage will have to book the vaccine on behalf of 400 people, 20 belonging to the priority categories of step 3 (teachers, police, etc.) and about 380 vulnerable (excluding, however, the “ultra-fragile” who will be given the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine once the over 80s are exhausted).

Who can get vaccinated by calling the doctor

The largest slice is that of 450 thousand “vulnerable” Ligurians, people with certain pathologies at risk identified by a table of the ministry that we report below.

From these categories, however, the “extremely vulnerable” or “ultra-fragile” must be subtracted, people considered even more at risk, who will not be able to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine but will have to be immunized with the Pfizer and Moderna doses currently used on over 80s. These patients will not have to call their doctor to book and will be subsequently called by the local health authorities, upon recommendation of the family doctors. Below is the table.

In the same tranche which starts on March 15, with reservations through the family doctor from March 9 and vaccination in the ASL offices from March 15, 40 thousand will be included school workers (teachers and non-teachers), about 2 thousand agents of police locale, 2 thousand employees of judicial offices.

Instead they will not have to call the doctor to the university staff (4 thousand people), members of the police (11 thousand) who will be vaccinated directly by the bodies they belong to while for the volunteers of protection civil (10 thousand) a channel still needs to be identified.
