The ‘Vaccine by vaccine’ course is developed in three modules that address vaccination strategies, calendars or vaccinations in specific and risk groups
A total of 549 health professionals -doctors, nurses and pharmacists from the Region of Murcia- have received training on vaccines as part of the training activities organized by the Vaccination Program of the Region of Murcia.
Of the total number of professionals who have finished the course, 105 are doctors, including 66 in the family specialty, 30 pediatricians and 9 preventive medicine and public health doctors; 351 nurses and 93 pharmacists.
The second edition of the ‘Vaccine to Vaccine’ course came to an end in July, which consists of an online training cycle, created by expert members of the Spanish Vaccinology Association (AEV), consisting of 100 hours and accredited by the Commission for Continuing Education of the health professions.
The training has been developed in three modules that address general issues, such as vaccination strategies, calendars or vaccinations in specific and risk groups, among others. Likewise, knowledge of certain vaccines and their administration in the population has been worked on, as well as the implementation of the planning and management of vaccination programs.
This course has been carried out through active classrooms in order to maintain direct communication between the student and the tutor, and professionals from the Region’s Vaccine Program have served as tutors.
In total, two editions of the ‘Vaccine to Vaccine’ course have been developed. The two classrooms of the first edition, which was held for seven months in 2022, were aimed almost exclusively at health center professionals, to help professionals in their daily and direct contact with patients and improve their practical knowledge in vaccines.
With the second edition, held mainly during 2023 and which ended in July, an exclusive classroom was established for pharmacists in collaboration with the Official College of Pharmacists of the Region of Murcia, with the aim of training them in their performance of direct care. to the patient. A second classroom was established, in which support was given to professionals from health centers who had not been able to take the course in the previous edition, and it was extended to health professionals from other groups, such as university teachers, centers of international vaccination or of the town halls.
Expansion of training
Among the powers of the Health Prevention and Protection Service of the General Directorate of Public Health and Addictions of the Region of Murcia are those related to training health personnel in the Region on immunopreventable diseases.
Although there are multiple training actions developed in this field, this course results in better health of the population due to its characteristics and depth and, at the same time, it demonstrates the great interest that professionals have in Vaccinology.
The intention of the Vaccination Program of the Region of Murcia is to continue training professionals related to vaccines and work is being done on advanced editions of the course for professionals who have already taken it, as well as opening up training to other professionals (especially from Nursing), such as workers in residences for the elderly and disabled, as well as professionals in the private sector who, in general, may have less access but who are an active part of the Vaccination Program of the Region of Murcia.
The two editions of the course have been sponsored by the Sanofi and CSL Seqirus laboratories.
