A breakthrough came against skin cancer. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted breakthrough therapy designation for a treatment for melanoma, the most serious form of this disease.

“The FDA’s breakthrough designation for MRNA-4157/V940 in combination with the drug Keytruda reflects the excitement we have about the potential promise of individualized cancer treatments,” said Stephen Hoge, MD, president of Moderna.

For his part, Eric H. RubinMerck’s senior vice president of global clinical development, said: “We look forward to working with the FDA, in collaboration with Moderna, to conduct a rigorous and rapid clinical development program. focused on addressing the needs of this important patient population.

The therapy uses messenger RNA from the Moderna laboratory, technology that was successfully used in vaccines against COVID-19 and which demonstrated that in combination with another drug from the Merck laboratory, it increases the survival of patients with high-risk melanoma.

On the FDA designation, Moderna reported that it was granted “to expedite the development and review of drugs intended to treat a serious condition, and when preliminary clinical evidence indicates that the product may demonstrate substantial improvement over available therapies in at minus one clinically significant endpoint.
The FDA could approve such a skin cancer treatment in a few months.

Menstrual leave in Spain was approved: what is it about?

In other health issues, Spain became the first European country to approve menstrual leave, or for menstrual pain, which contemplates that women who certify their condition can have hours or days of work leave without affecting their salary or days vacation.

“Some countries where this menstrual leave exists are Japan, Korea and Zambia. However, here in the region it has not had an echo. Recently, Mexico put it on the table without success”, says María Camila Tovar, an activist.

Although menstruation is something natural, there are symptoms that determine whether it is normal or not.

“Abnormal menstruation symptoms are associated when there is a lot of pain and when it is accompanied by other symptoms. For example, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, etc. There you have to look for prevalent diseases that can explain these abnormal menstruations,” says Camilo Rueda, a gynecologist at the Clínica del Country in Bogotá.

No woman should interpret as normal or minimize these symptoms, a medical evaluation is always necessary in search of causes that can be treated.
