Following the vaccination recommendations against Herpes Zoster approved by the Public Health Commission, systematic vaccination with the 65-year-old cohort is included. Until now this vaccine was not included in the common vaccination schedule throughout life and was only administered to groups with certain risk conditions.

Herpes Zoster is a very prevalent disease, with a higher incidence after 50 years of age and in women, increasing with age and, considerably, with the presence of immunosuppression and certain risk conditions. The most frequent complication is postherpetic neuralgia, a pain that can cause disability and reduce the patient’s quality of life.

Regarding pneumococcal disease, the vaccine is recommended from the age of 65, to prevent this type of infection that can become serious.
