Vaccination with Abdala… only empty chairs

Pachuca.— Gloria Echenique prepared herself for a long wait, endless lines of people, and a changing climate: hot or maybe cold.

He says that he thought he would lose the whole day to accompany his son Josué to get vaccinated against Covid-19, but he had two surprises: the first, that there were no people, in fact he had to wait for more people to arrive and they could open a bottle of 12 doses, and the other, the name of Abdala had never heard.

Yesterday the three-day journey to apply the reinforcement against the virus began in Hidalgo.

In December, a batch of around 100,000 doses of the Cuban vaccine arrived in this entity, which has had the indifference of the population in other states.

After coordination between state and federal authorities, at the beginning of the week the logistics of vaccination for people over 18 years of age were reported. The application at this stage will be only in the capital and the municipality of Mineral de la Reforma; this time the venues are the health centers of the colonies.

To apply the booster, users only need to bring proof of previous vaccinations, which was unknown to most of those who went to the vaccination posts and were forced to go to an internet cafe to print their document.

Give your vote of confidence

Throughout the pandemic, vaccination at the Jesús del Rosal Health Center, in the center of Pachuca, has registered various episodes: endless lines, sick people, attempts at violence and, now, empty chairs.

Gloria says that she already has four vaccinations, her booster was Cansino; She remembers that this dose did not enjoy the confidence of the people either, but she assures that it is better to have some protection than to be defenseless against the virus. Therefore, when she learned that there was a vaccination day, she did not hesitate and she took her son.

However, he says he did not know what type of vaccine it was. She was unaware that there was a Cuban named Abdala, but she is sure that she must have some protection against Covid.

The parking lot of the health center, set up as a vaccination center, is empty at times. Health personnel advise those who come to ask for reports. A cardboard announces the name of the vaccine: Abdala; the batch: A182026, as well as the expiration date: 08/23.

It’s noon and the turnout is limited, which complicates the logistics a bit because there must be 12 people for a jar to be opened.

Iván Lozano comes convinced that getting vaccinated is the best option against a virus that has been deadly for millions of people in the world.

He says that he did know it was about Abdala, but he doesn’t care about the criticism.

“It is very important to know that any type of vaccine is better than not applying anything at all,” he asserts.

They call to get vaccinated

At the Cubitos Health Center, also in Pachuca, the situation is the same. There they had only applied one bottle, that is, 12 people came to get vaccinated.

The personnel in this place consider that the population is not properly informed, so it is necessary that there be a greater dissemination.

They say that there must be greater public confidence in the vaccine, since its safety and efficacy have been scientifically proven.

The director of Public Health Policies and Strategies, Concepción a Carmona, mentioned that there are 30 venues for the people of Pachuca and Mineral de la Reforma to get vaccinated until next January 13.
