Vaccination update: only Iceland does better than Flanders…

The vaccination update from the Agency for Care and Health shows that Flanders is doing very well in terms of vaccination coverage. Only Iceland does better. In Flanders, 53.75 percent has already been fully vaccinated. This is 66.47 percent among the over 18s.

The vaccination campaign in Flanders is running at full speed. Only Iceland is doing just that little bit better than we are. This is according to figures from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

About 44,000 12- to 15-year-old Flemings are still waiting for an invitation from the Flemish Agency for Care and Health to be vaccinated. More than 40,000 young people in that age category have already received at least one shot, according to data from the Flemish Agency for Care and Health on Friday.

Just about every resident in Flanders who is older than 16 has already received an invitation for vaccination. In the youngest age category, from 12 to 15 years, this has already happened to 255,000 of the 299,000 people. So there are still about 44,000 young people who need to be invited.

“The last 44,000 will receive an invitation for a Pfizer vaccine very soon,” said Joris Moonens, spokesperson for the Agency for Care and Health. “The decision by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to allow Moderna in that age group comes too late for them.”

More than half of Flemish people fully vaccinated

3,575,957 Flemings have already received two corona shots. That is 53.75 percent of all Flemish people. 1,345,578 Flemings also received one shot. That’s 20.22 percent. A total of 4,921,535 Flemish people have already received at least one corona jab. That amounts to 73.97 percent of the Flemish population. Vaccination coverage is now very high among the over-65s. 92.86 percent of them are already fully vaccinated. If we look at the over 18s, we have a vaccination rate of 66.47 percent.

A lot of shots are planned for the next two weeks. 579,269 in the week of July 26 and 376,190 in the week of August 2. Most of that goes to people who need to get a second shot.
