Vaccination in Vietnam (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Health of Vietnam has directed units and localities to cooperate with relevant ministries, departments and branches in promoting vaccine supply activities for the Expanded Program of Immunization.
At the government’s regular press conference held today, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, reporting on the vaccine shortage situation, explained that this year, several localities faced difficulties in implementing the Budget Law, which regulates purchase of vaccines using the local budget.
In order to implement Resolution 99 of the National Assembly, dated June 24, 2023 on the allocation of the budget to continue implementing the Expanded Immunization Program throughout the country effectively, the Ministry of Health has requested the Government to approve the allocation of funds for the purchase of vaccines.
For the 10 types of vaccines that can be produced in the country, this ministry has reviewed legal regulations and issued purchase orders, the subhead said, adding that a specific pricing plan is expected to be completed within this month.
The Ministry of Health has also assigned the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to sign contracts with vaccine producers and distribute these products to localities.
For the 5-in-1 vaccine that needs to be imported, it has assigned the Institute the task of carrying out the procurement in the form of open tender in accordance with the Tender Law.
He noted that at the end of August, with financing from the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other organizations, 258 thousand doses of the vaccine arrived in Vietnam and were distributed in the localities.
The Australian government will provide Vietnam with 490,600 doses of the vaccine, and they are expected to arrive in the Southeast Asian nation this month./.
