Vaccination against the coronavirus reduces the number of hospitalizations and admissions to the ICU by 75% and the number of deaths by 90%, while the risk of death is multiplied by three in the case of unvaccinated people, according to a study prepared by the General Directorate of Analysis and Public Policies of the Generalitat Valenciana.
The study shows that the relationship between cases and hospital pressure has radically changed with vaccination. In this way, people diagnosed with covid-19 not vaccinated or with incomplete vaccination multiply by two the risk of being hospitalized, while the risk of death is multiplied by three in the case of the unvaccinated.
The impact on mortality attributable to covid-19 is significantly lower than that of the wave of early 2021, when the population was not vaccinated, according to this report on vaccination against covid.
The main conclusion is that vaccines are proving to be very effective on the severity of cases since all the indicators of severity (hospitalization, admission to the ICU and death) show an indisputable decrease, the Generalitat highlighted, adding that the disease is manifesting itself mildly in most cases.
The impact on the elderly is also relevant, since the vaccinated people between 60 and 80 years they have a risk of death 14 times lower than those not vaccinated; in those over 30 years of age, the risk of hospitalization is eight times lower for those vaccinated
The study of vaccine effectiveness has also been set in the sector of health professionals of the Valencian Community, that unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated health professionals have three times the risk of being hospitalized and multiply the risk of death by 2.5. In addition, the vaccine in this area has reduced hospitalizations by 73% and deaths by 65%.
In the Barometer 2021 of the Generalitat, the severity of the disease has been analyzed from the cases of covid-19 diagnosed in the Valencian Community from the summer, when vaccination was very advanced, compared to the previous period.
