In the Netherlands, children and young people receive free vaccinations against twelve infectious diseases that can be serious, such as measles, polio and rubella. Vaccination rates in Amsterdam and the Netherlands will be lower in 2022 than a year earlier. Only the HPV vaccination rate has increased. This vaccination protects against six types of cancer.
Less chance of illness
The vaccinations from the National Vaccination Program are free and voluntary. After the injection, a child is less likely to get the disease. And if it does get the disease, it is usually less sick. If every child receives all the shots, Amsterdam residents will be better protected against infectious diseases.
The whooping cough vaccination can be taken from the 22nd week of pregnancy until delivery, so that the baby is protected from birth. The injection can be obtained during walk-in consultation hours. Babies receive their first injection from three months against diseases such as whooping cough and pneumococcal disease. An invitation will be sent for this.
Invitation
The autumn campaign will start in October. In the year they turn nine, children and young people are called upon to be vaccinated against DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, polio), MMR (mumps, measles, rubella), meningococcus and HPV. For dates and locations, visit ggd.amsterdam.nl. An invitation will also be sent by post.
The GGD wants everyone to be able to make a well-informed choice about vaccination. If you have any doubts, you can contact Youth Health Care (JGZ) for a consultation nearby. For more information: rijksvaccinatieprogramma.nl.
