The effective vaccine remains a great hope in the fight against Covid-19. “The only illusion we have to make is that vaccination against Covid-19 lasts a lifetime,” said Wendtner. “It is not uncommon for vaccinations not to last for years, but to be updated regularly.”
With flu, the vaccination takes several months – this is enough to be well prepared for the annual flu season in winter. A certain summer effect can also be observed with Corona – the heat and UV radiation partly contained the virus. “You have to see what vaccination can do for all of us,” said Wendtner, and in view of the long-term consequences: “Anyone who has been through Covid-19 is a warning example of opponents of vaccination.”
Experts expect an approved vaccine at the earliest next year. “Therefore, patience and an understanding of the important protective measures of each individual are still required,” says Wendtner. The first nationwide crown patients were treated at the Schwabing Clinic in Munich in January.
