Vaccination for Children in Vietnam: DPT-VGB-Hib Vaccine Allocation and Impact on Immunization Coverage

Vaccination for children in Vietnam (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology decided to allocate 185 thousand doses of the DPT-VGB-Hib vaccine to 49 cities and provinces within this month.

The vaccine helps protect children against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, and haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib).

The doses are part of a batch of the vaccine financed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which arrived in Hanoi on July 27 to serve the expanded national program of immunization.

Previously, 72,300 doses were distributed to 14 northern mountainous provinces, using national funds.

Like other countries around the world, routine immunization services in Vietnam were disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in some 114,000 children under one year of age not receiving vaccinations against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, which are used as indicators of global immunization coverage, in 2022.

Furthermore, due to the recent shortage of the 5-in-1 vaccine, an estimated 300,000 Vietnamese children born in early 2023 have yet to receive this essential vaccine.

The WHO representative in Vietnam, Angela Pratt, said the organization will continue to work with UNICEF and other partners to support the Vietnamese government, ensuring that all children in all corners of the country receive full and timely vaccinations, both now and in the future. future./.
