Vaccination Days to Prevent Resurgence for Holy Week – NBC 7 San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The Easter holidays are approaching in Baja California and with them a possible increase in the number of COVID-19 infections. Only 50% of the total population vaccinated in the jurisdiction of Tijuana, Tecate and Rosarito, have come for a reinforcement of the anticovid vaccine. For this reason, health authorities confirmed that massive vaccination days will be held again due to the increase in mobility and also a possible increase in cases.

Through a statement, the Secretary of Health Adrián Medina, confirmed that it will be held next Monday, April 4.

And it is that this next vacation period, according to Azucena López, a resident of Tijuana, could be conducive to a new wave of infections.

“Yes, I imagine that the regrowth is coming, which is when the people gather the most, the most crowds of people,” he told Telemundo 20.

And to prevent contagion before the proximity of Holy Week, young people like Azucena come for the reinforcement of their anti-covid vaccine, which is currently carried out in health centers of the entity.

“The risk is latent, it is not like something that is going to happen, but we have to be forewarned, we must keep our guard up and strengthen vaccination,” said José Peraza, head of the health jurisdiction of Tijuana, Tecate and Rosarito.

For this reason, the conferences are prepared in strategic points of great mobility of young people, since it is men and women between the ages of 18 and 40 who are most exposed to contagion.

“At Xochicalco University, UABC, and also consider the Chevron point in the stadium, we are going to have those three points with the intensive day to try to reinforce before Holy Week begins,” added the head of the jurisdiction.

According to health authorities, at least 30% of the population between 18 and 29 years of age need to be vaccinated with the booster. Although others may be outside the official statistics and already have immunity when vaccinated in the United States.

“Yes, there are a lot of young people who did not come for their third dose, but we must also see that many of these young people have already received their third dose with the opening of the border and were able to get vaccinated in the United States,” said Rosendo Rojas, coordinator of epidemiological surveillance. .

Last year, after the holidays, there was an increase in cases, so citizens like Wendy Tijero do not want to repeat the same story.

“Well, if they don’t continue to take care of themselves, I think so. There will be more. It’s more controlled, but right now the vacations are coming, they’re going to want to walk on the beach and, well, no,” said Wendy.

According to the official statement from the Ministry of Health, some units of the UABC will be enabled for students and massive vehicular modality sites will be activated in the different municipalities, to speed up the influx; Pedestrian spaces will also be preserved to apply the vaccines in cities and rural areas.

The vaccination sites for the intensive week prior to the vacation cycle will be announced this weekend through official networks of the Ministry of Health.
