Vaccination Day at UNAM Faculty of Medicine – Preventing Infectious Diseases

With the aim of facilitating access for the population of the UNAM Faculty of Medicine to vaccines prevention of infectious diseaseson November 21, the Department of Public Health (DSP)in alliance with the Southern Delegation of the IMSS, held a Vaccination Day, under the coordination of Dr. Andrés Quintero Leyra, Head of Academic Liaison of the DSP.

In front of the Library “Dr. Valentín Gómez Farías”, behind the elevator of building “B”, IMSS staff and DSP instructors applied 160 pneumococcus biologics, 200 COVID-19 Abdala, 240 influenza, and 110 tetanus and diphtheria toxoid. Dr. Quintero Leyra stated that “getting vaccinated against these diseases can help achieve herd immunity, protecting those who cannot access this prevention measure due to underlying health problems or their weakened immune status”.

Likewise, he expressed that each biological protects against specific aspects: “The influenza vaccine prevents seasonal flu, while tetanus and diphtheria toxoid prevent tetanus and diphtheria, respectively. The pneumococcus vaccine protects against bacterial infections that can cause pneumonia, meningitis and other serious illnesses. lThe COVID-19 vaccine helps prevent serious illness and complications associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”

However, highlighted that simultaneous vaccination against multiple diseases can reduce the number of visits to the doctor, which saves time and resources for both health professionals and patients; improves compliance with vaccination programs; and provides faster protection against various conditions.

The day took place at 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in an orderly mannerwithout any incident and cThere is great interest on the part of the community in staying protected and protecting their loved ones.
