From Monday, April 18, citizens who wish to access non-essential activities must present the certificate containing three injections of the vaccine against COVID-19.
This was announced by the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzonduring a press conference in Quito in which the recent resolutions of the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) were announced.
“All people of all ages, who already have five months of the second dose, must already have their third dose, which must already be registered in their vaccination card,” he said.
“And the updated card will be required in the places where the card has to be presented,” the official said.
Garzón explained this Tuesday that until a vaccine for the endemic disease is marketed, reinforcements will be applied to the population every five months.
However, he assured that pharmaceutical laboratories are already working on a biological that will be applied annually, such as the injection against influenza. The minister considers that this vaccine would be ready between August and September of this year.

On his side, Juan Zapata, president of the National COE, indicated that Ecuador is “in the best health moments throughout the pandemic”, for this reason the COE will meet again on May 3 and analyze the possibility of suspending the use of the mask in open spaces.
Zapata clarified that the requirement of the vaccination certificate with three doses will not yet apply to those who arrive from abroad. This measure will also be evaluated on May 3.
This meeting of the COE takes place three days after the start of the Holy Week holiday, the date on which processions will be held and in which some 800,000 Ecuadorians are expected to mobilize through different provinces.
According to figures from the Ministry of Health, 86.54% of the population in Ecuador have the first dose of the anticovid vaccine, while 82.3% have two doses.
And more than five million Ecuadorians have been inoculated with the booster dose, a figure that, according to doctors, has stagnated.
From April 1 in Ecuador the fourth dose of the vaccine is already applied.
Citizens over 50 years of age who have received the third injection against the coronavirus at least five months ago will be able to go to health centers nationwide to apply a second booster dose (fourth injection).
