The vaccination certificate is becoming a ticket to an ever-increasing range of activities that are resumed after a coronavirus pandemic. It doesn’t hurt to have it on hand. That is why the Czech YourPass came up with a solution, thanks to which you will be able to include your certificate next to payment cards in an Apple Wallet or other digital wallet. A similar possibility is also in the case of confirmation of a test or past illness.

YourPass, which focuses on the development of solutions for digital wallets, came de facto with a very simple application. Once a person has their vaccination certificate issued in PDF format, just visit the site getcovidpass.eumanaged by YourPass, and in a few clicks create a full copy right in your digital wallet.

The solution builds on EU digital COVID certificate, which every citizen of the European Union can download with a unique QR code. Its main idea is a uniform format for the whole of the EU, which should help speed up cross-border exchanges. However, YourPass is not its publisher, but its developer.

The official role in this direction is played by the authorities of each Member State, in the case of the Czech Republic the Ministry of Health, or the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS) falling under it. Right through his site ocko.uzis.cz the certificate itself can be obtained in PDF. All you need is a birth number and ID card number, or registration via electronic identity within the Czech e-government.

YourPass boss Daniel Rajnoch told CzechCrunch that his company offered the solution directly to the government before launching it on its own, but the latter rejected it. Instead, the state develops a pair of its own, stand-alone applications to serve a similar purpose.

One of them, ČTečka, serves only as a validator of QR codes from certificates and is already available for free in the application store. It simply reads the code and shows if the person has a valid vaccination or test. The second application, Dot, will serve similarly to the solution from YourPass, so the digital certificate will be displayed primarily. However, it is not yet available – it should be available by the end of June.

Both applications are published by the Ministry of Health, but Rajnoch thinks that not everyone will want a government application on their phone, as has been shown in the past by considerable resistance to the eRouška application. Therefore, he decided to issue a solution in YourPass on his own, despite the rejection of state authorities.

Have the original certificate with you

It should be noted that a copy of the digital certificate from YourPass is not an official document. It should work technically, but Rajnoch still recommends carrying the original. “Nowhere is it clear what is and is not official and what will be the practice at the border (or in restaurants) in the final. If the QR code contains what it has, it should always work. We relied on freely available documentation and tuned the service for the whole of Europe, ” concludes.

The card with a digital certificate is purely passive. In other words, if, for example, a test expires or a person issues a certificate after the first dose of vaccination, they must renew it manually. According to Rajnoch, his team also worked with an interactive variant, but that would require data collection, which YourPass did not want. Before then YourPass created a popular information card about the pandemic situationwhich can also be uploaded to the digital wallet.
