The information was prepared by Inga Vasiljeva, Vaccination Project Division of the National Health Service.

In view of the rapid spread of the Omikron variant of SARS CoV-2 virus in Europe and in order to reduce the risk of widespread Covid-19 infection in Latvia and continuing the approach started last year, vaccination against Covid-19 is as close to human routine as possible. In addition, the National Health Service in co – operation with local governments is opening several vaccination centers: in Balvi, Livani, Olaine, Valmiera, Dobele and Valmiera.

At vaccination centers, residents have the opportunity to receive both the primary vaccination and the maintenance vaccine. Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from hospitalization in case of infection, and vaccination reduces the incidence, including with the omicron strain. The vaccine is able to boost the human immune response, and its protective effect begins the day after vaccination. The National Health Service urges the population to schedule vaccinations in good time.

The new centers will operate in addition to the existing 11 municipal vaccination centers (Aizkraukle, Alūksne, Bauska, Daugavpils, Jelgava, Jēkabpils, Kuldīga, Liepāja, Madona, Rēzekne, Salaspils, Talsi, Tukums, Ventspils). The large vaccination centers in Ķīpsala and the ATTA Center have resumed operations in Rīga since the end of 2021, as well as it is possible to vaccinate in the vaccination points in the shopping centers and in the vicinity of Rīga. A vaccine bus continues to operate in Rēzekne, offering daily vaccination in various parts of the city.

At the vaccination centers, residents can receive vaccines both by prior appointment, applying to manavakcina.lv or calling 8989, and in the live queue without prior registration.

The vaccination must be accompanied by an identity document (passport or ID card), a vaccination passport (if any), clothing that allows easy release of the shoulder, and adolescents 12 to 13 years of age need a mother or father during vaccination (or the presence of another legal representative), as well as the following documents: for a legal representative – a passport or identity card, as well as a document certifying the child (entry of the child in a passport or birth certificate, or, if necessary, a notarized power of attorney).

In order for the population to receive both primary and primary vaccination, more than 130 trips will take place in all regions of Latvia in January.
