“Vaccination Campaign Against Herpes Zoster Begins for Those Born in 1943 and 1958 in Villena, Spain”

The first to receive the dose of this disabling disease will be those born in 1943 and 1958

Villena, April 28.- The Department of Health has announced today the start of the vaccination campaign against Herpes Zoster, a disease associated with age that causes intense pain until it is incapacitating, for the population born in 1943 and 1958, while in subsequent campaigns will protect the rest of the people included in this age bracket. The mayor of Health, Alba Laserna, encouraged the population at risk to find out about this campaign and to respond to the summons that the different health centers in Villena have sent them.

The Public Health nurse, Alejandro Cremades, explained that this disease popularly known as ‘shingles’ generates strong neuralgia, which manifests itself with intense pain that makes it not fatal, but a disabling ailment. Cremades has commented that this disease occurs to a greater extent after the age of 60 and that in these cases it can generate a high degree of dependency. “Fortunately, we have a vaccine that gives very good results, which is good news,” he pointed out to encourage the population at risk.

In this sense, the person in charge of Public Health has indicated that there are two doses necessary to achieve immunity to this Herpes Zoster and that the Ministry of Health has established to start the vaccination process for people who in 2023 will turn 80 and 65 years, to go completing the intermediate sections in the future.

The representatives of the Villena health centers Liliana Moreno and María Revert have explained that the group selected in this first vaccination campaign have received an SMS. In the case of the Villena 1 Health Center, those cited will be attended to next Thursday, May 4, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. At Health Center 2, they will be held on May 2, 9 and 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
