Vaccination buses make a presence on NYC beaches

Campaigns by the city to begin installing mobile vaccination buses on the city’s beaches this holiday weekend for the day of remembrance were impacted due to the system of heavy rains and winds that hit the northeast of the country.

Luis Ortiz was present as an interpreter: “This has a great impact because inclement weather is not conducive and when it starts to rain people do not arrive.”

Beaches like Orchard Beach looked completely desolate. Volunteers and city workers from early on were installed a few steps from the sea. Regardless of the weather conditions, they managed to place tents, tables, and chairs in case a patient arrives.

“It is also important that we, as the city, have prepared this pilot plan to reach all the people. It is very good, come or not, because we will be here until eight o’clock at night,” Ortiz explained.

This center will operate until Sunday, from 11 to 7 at night and will be administering the Pfizer vaccine. Mobile vaccination buses were also installed on other beaches, on Rockaway Beach at two locations, on Far Rockaway 17th Street and on 84th Street. In Brooklyn, a bus was parked on the beaches of Brighton and Coney Island.

The Mayor’s Office, which officially announced the opening of the beaches from this Saturday, hopes that with these initiatives they can reach and encourage more people to get vaccinated.

According to the organizers, this pilot plan will continue during the summer season. So if during your walk to the beach you see one of these mobile buses, know that you can get vaccinated without having to make an appointment.
