Vaccination Brigade ensures home vaccination for vulnerable patients during pandemic: stories of Javier and Adrian

The reference of the Vaccination Brigade, licensed Sandra Ibáñez, provided details about the special work at home that they have been doing since the beginning of the pandemic for patients who for some delicate health reason cannot approach the vaccination clinics. Learn about the stories of Javier and Adrián, two patients who were visited during the day and who receive regular coverage in their homes, as well as their families who are under their permanent care.

“We continue to work at home according to the schedule that we have been developing since the pandemic began, vaccinating against Covid and with flu vaccines. Today we are in Colon at 700 with one of our patients, applying the fifth dose or the third booster of the Covid vaccine and then we have another address also scheduled to visit”, Ibáñez began regarding the task to which they continue to guarantee correct coverage. of vulnerable population, as provided by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Luis Medina Ruiz.

In this sense, the graduate highlighted that one of the patients they visited on the day is self-valid and is in the care of his parents in very good condition, in addition to the assistance he receives from his nurse caregivers: “It fills us with satisfaction to know that they are well cared for and that we can continue that with our work, people always wait for us with much love, thanking us for what we are doing, for this activity that we carry out under the direction of the Ministry as always, visiting all the homes again of our self-validated patients who have certain requirements that make our visit necessary”.

Health close to those who need it most

Olga Beatriz Timo He is 73 years old and his 50-year-old son Javier is bedridden, which is why it was almost impossible to transfer him to receive the essential vaccines to protect his health, especially in a pandemic. The Vaccination Brigade frequents his home to offer him access to coverage in an easy and safe way, for which he expressed his gratitude.

“We have a good Health System that really cares and helps us, gives us a great hand. My son Javier is 50 years old, he has Down syndrome and he got sick four years ago and is bedridden, tracheotomized, and gastromized, without mobility, so it was impossible to take him to be vaccinated, but fortunately the system is there, I received a lot of help, especially At the time of the pandemic when they came to give him the vaccine, we are already older and we were permanently with him treating him, so this is very valuable,” Olga said.

Regarding the care that Javier requires and that makes the Brigade’s home visits so important, his mother commented that they are permanent, since he must be carefully provided with his medication in a timely manner, as well as general cleaning and assistance for mobility: “Your transfer is done by crane from your bed to your chair or to your wheelchair to be able to mobilize you. Javier is in home hospitalization, he has the help of nurses, a kinesiologist, a speech therapist and a doctor who comes periodically to see him, I am permanently with my son ”.

Adrian Gustavo Pasteri He is 42 years old and since the year 2000, when he suffered a serious accident, he has been bedridden. He commented that the visits from the Vaccination Brigade are periodic and that they allow him to have a correct and reinforced immunity: “They usually come, I have the six doses of Covid applied and anti-flu, always by the same team and the attention is ten, perfect. On November 5, 2000 I had an accident, I jumped into a pool and hit the bottom with my head and fractured my neck due to compression, which injured my fourth and fifth cervical vertebrae, which led to quadriplegia, so I am in bed and sporadically in a wheelchair for now.”

Following this line, the man maintained that the task that the Brigade develops seems extremely practical to him: “There are people who cannot get out directly, me, for example, if I did not have caregivers, three or four people to help me get out of bed and apart from having a vehicle, I couldn’t, it would be impossible for me to move around”, highlighted Adrián, while commenting that during the previous ministerial administration he received a special bed to be able to have a better quality of life.

“I personally met the former minister and Governor Juan Manzur, they came to my house, they gave me this bed that is connected to the computer and they remodeled my room to make it better and easier for me and my brother to manage inside. of this house. It has an emergency exit, the bed comes out of the door, everything is designed to be as comfortable as possible for me and my brother. He has a birth disability, a severe developmental delay and epilepsy, so I am very grateful, they were always present and continue to be, both Health and Social Development and Disability. We are well contained and very grateful to everyone, ”he concluded.
