Encourage blood donation with a campaign, as reserves are 25% below optimal levels

The blood reserves of the Community of Madrid are 25% below optimal levels, so the Transfusion Center has started a campaign to encourage donors and have explained that the coronavirus vaccine and donation blood “are not incompatible.”
Speaking to Europa Press Television, Pilar de la Peña, spokesperson for the Transfusion Center, insisted that “you can donate once 48 hours after receiving the first or second dose,” while waiting for the donor to had a fever at this time.
Also, it has indicated that “the donations go down in summer, since the Madrilenians go of vacations and they stop doing this type of things”. De la Peña has pointed out that it has been “a complicated season” due to the coronavirus, so the reserves are lower than other summers.
In this sense, he pointed out that “with these figures, about 1,500 bags would be missing to have a safety stock.” In turn, some blood groups need extra donations such as 0+, 0-, A + and 0-.
The donation campaign was launched at the beginning of August, although a greater effort was made since the end of last month, and it has been noticed, since, in the words of the spokesperson, “there are a little more donations.” “We have to continue with this rhythm of donations because otherwise we will be in the red again, which is an urgent donation in many groups,” he reiterated.
From the Transfusion Center, Madrilenians are encouraged to “look for 20 minutes”, since “in summer we can have time to do everything”. “Donating blood saves lives, for a very short time we can achieve something very great,” he concluded.
