The Secretary of Health of Foz de Yguazú, Brazil, began yesterday Monday the application of the bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 in people aged 60 and 69. All the 29 basic health units have biologicals available and they are applied without the need for scheduling.
The campaign began on February 27 for people over the age of 70, people residing in long-term institutions, indigenous communities, and immunocompromised people from 12 years of age. So far, a total of 1,732 doses have been applied.
To receive this dose, it is necessary to have completed at least the primary vaccination schedule against covid-19, consisting of the first two doses of monovalent vaccines. The interval for the bivalent vaccine is 4 months from the last booster dose to the last dose of the basic primary regimen.
“The bivalent immunizer has updated strains against the coronavirus, including protection against the Omicron variant, which is why it is an important reinforcement, especially for groups considered to be at risk,” said Adriana Izuka, coordinator of the municipal immunization program.
In this first phase of the campaign, as determined by the protocol of the Ministry of Health of the neighboring country, priority groups will be attended. On March 20, vaccination of pregnant and postpartum women begins. On April 17, health professionals and people with permanent disabilities from the age of 12.
