It is estimated that about 160 thousand adults over 60 years of age reside in Tijuana, of which, between 20 and 30 percent have said that they do not want to be vaccinated, anticipated Alonso Pérez Rico, Baja California’s Secretary of Health.

There is also a percentage, although authorities could not confirm a number, of Tijuana residents with dual nationality who may have already been vaccinated in neighboring San Diego County. Others did the same in other municipalities such as Tecate and Rosarito.

Tijuana, the most populous municipality in the state —And of the country— was the last in the region to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. It is estimated that, in total, more than 194 thousand older adults have already been vaccinated in Baja California.

The Health Jurisdiction confirmed that this weekend foreigners living in Baja California were also vaccinated, both Americans and of other nationalities, although a figure was not given.

Foreign nationals must show any identification showing their age, as well as proof of address.

Pérez Rico urged those who have already received the vaccine not to lower their guard and maintain health recommendations, such as the use of face masks and avoid crowds.

“Right now is the time to take care of ourselves even more,” reiterated the official before the possibility of a third wave of infections.

He said that a “historic” vaccination day is anticipated with the intention of immunizing the majority of older adults in the state.

“We said that we were going to vaccinate 43 thousand people and some people did not believe us, it is not normal for a state to throw a massive (center) in one working day, we throw ourselves five massive in one day.”
