Vaccinated and healthy? Then hardly any chance of hospitalization because of corona

Anyone who is fully vaccinated and has no other conditions has little chance of being hospitalized with Covid-19. Let alone in an intensive care unit.

The majority of vaccinated patients who end up in hospital with Covid-19 have underlying conditions such as severe obesity, diabetes or heart disease. As a result, they ran an extra risk of hospitalization compared to healthy vaccinees. In addition, most of the vaccinated covid patients in the hospital were over 60.

This is apparent from a new survey by the Dutch Association of Physicians for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis. Last week, the NOS reported on the basis of an earlier survey by the pulmonologists that the percentage of fully vaccinated people who nevertheless ended up in hospital with Covid-19 was below ten.

Not only do vaccinated people have a much smaller risk of hospitalization than unvaccinated: the chance that someone who is fully vaccinated will still contract the corona virus – depending on the vaccines – 60 to 80 percent lower than for an unvaccinated person.

Nursing wards

Three quarters of the Dutch hospitals responded to this second survey of the pulmonologists. Together, over the two-week study period, they enrolled 69 patients with Covid-19 in their wards who had been fully vaccinated for at least two weeks.

Almost three quarters of them also suffered from other diseases. Four of the five patients were older than 60 years. More than a quarter of the vaccinated patients who were admitted to hospital with Covid-19, had no known other illness.
