The Health Council advises the Government to offer children aged 6 months to 6 years with a serious medical condition a vaccination against Covid-19. Now only children over the age of 5 – with or without medical indication – can receive a corona injection.
As the European Medicines Agency EMA recently approved vaccines from Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer to vaccinate children up to 6 years old, the Ministry of Health had asked the Health Council to publish an advisory report on vaccination of this group. Now he said so-called mRNA vaccines provide “a good immune response” for children up to 6 years old.
Since the disease course of a corona infection in children up to 6 years is usually mild, the new vaccination advice only applies to children in this age group with a high medical risk. “It concerns, for example, children with Down syndrome or with a serious disorder of the heart, immune system or lungs,” according to the Health Council.
