Vacation politicians in Portugal in a year of pandemic between Algarve, north and islands – News

BE coordinator Catarina Martins plans to take a vacation in the first half of August and, if political developments allow, she will spend those fifteen days “with her family in the North (coast), in the Aveiro district”, according to the broken.

According to the PCP’s press office, the communist general secretary, Jerónimo de Sousa, “will enjoy his vacation between the end of July and the first weeks of August, in the south of the country as usual, taking measures protection measures adjusted to the current situation ”.

PAN deputy and spokesman André Silva, on the other hand, will be on vacation in the first three weeks of August.

“Like last year, he chose Portugal as the place to rest and restore energy. During this period, he plans to divide the days between the Algarve and the Aveiro area. In this year in which the country is also affected by a health crisis, the recommendations and precautions that have been widely recommended by health authorities will surely be part of the routine on vacation, ”the party’s press office replied to Lusa.

The two new party leaders with seats in the Assembly of the Republic will have vacations interspersed with political activity.

André Ventura, Chega’s only deputy and resignation leader, assumes that this year he will have vacations “very different from what is usual”, either because of party commitments or because of his announced candidacy for Belém.

“In August, rallies will be held in various areas of the country to support the candidacy of the President of Chega to the Presidency of the Republic, namely in Aveiro, Leiria and Setúbal, with several weekly meetings”, informed his adviser , saying that the “few days of rest” that André Ventura will have will be interspersed with this political activity, spent “in the company of his family and, whenever possible, reading a book”.

The advisory of the president of the Liberal Initiative, João Cotrim Figueiredo, indicated that “in an atypical year, vacations [do deputado] will be typical ”, set in Portugal (preferring not to reveal the location), and dedicated to what“ misses most ”the rest of the year:“ family, friends, sport and reading ”.

“But, as a deputy and president of IL, he will maintain political activity, with some actions planned for the country, such as his presence in Porto on 24 August to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Liberal Revolution”, he adds.

If the holidays of the majority of the party leaders will not undergo major changes despite the pandemic, the same cannot be said of the party ‘rentrées’, which usually take place between the end of August and the beginning of September.

Only the PCP maintains the usual Festa do Avante! for the first weekend in September, albeit with new rules for space, circulation or hygiene.

PSD and BE have already canceled the initiatives they have been carrying out for several years – Summer University and Socialism Forum, respectively -, with the Block adapting their youth camp to the online format, an initiative that started on Monday and runs until Sunday, with the participation of Marisa Matias, Francisco Louçã and Catarina Martins, among others.

PS source told Lusa that nothing is yet definitively decided on ‘rentrées’, but recalls that the party has the federative congresses scheduled for the weekend of September 12 and 13.
