UZÈS Troubling months at the hospital center but unfailing commitment from hospital staff

The director of the Uzès hospital center, Jean-Luc Montagne, takes stock of the covid in the establishment and in the nursing homes that depend on it. In October and November, the Ehpad of Moussac and Terrasses de Gisfort in Uzès had experienced several cases of covid among residents. The situation is now under control but it is the Redessan nursing home which is now concerned by the positive cases among the elderly and the staff.

The director notes “a great team spirit” despite “nine trying months” : “The management of the first wave of covid-19 demonstrated the collective strength of the teams from the Uzès hospital and all the nursing homes of the SSIAD of the HAD and the day care services but also of all transversal services (administration, pharmacy, technical, ECH, kitchen, store, flow…).

He pursues : “In this very difficult context, the teams […] demonstrate unwavering dedication to protecting our seniors in the face of this health crisis, and providing care, safety, and well-being to reassure and keep the morale of the elderly and patients.“However, he does not hide that the situation generates”fatigue, anxiety, uncertainties about the future“.

He says he is proud of the work of the teams and also salutes the solidarity shown by traders and associations in the area. Now he knows that the teams at the hospital and nursing homes are able to adapt their “operation to guarantee continuity of care“and therefore to face a”unprecedented situation“.

The entire medical profession is also mobilized for the vaccination campaign in nursing homes. The Uzetian establishment has placed an order for the beginning of the year 2021: “We hope to launch this campaign as soon as possible, with the agreement of the ARS and the efficient organization of the CHU de Nîmes (who is the support institution, editor’s note). […] The campaign could start as early as the first half of January 2021 on an EHPAD at the Uzès hospital.

Of course, vaccination, which will be free, is not mandatory and consent will therefore be requested from residents and families. But it could prove to be crucial when Jean-Luc Montagne, like many members of the medical community, advances: “We will certainly experience a rebound in the epidemic (3rd phase) because viral circulation seems inevitable after the end of the year holidays.“So, even with your loved ones, apply barrier gestures and respect the minimum number of guests at the table.
