TASHKENT – Uzbekistan secures dozens of Afghan soldiers who fled fighting with the Taliban. Uzbekistan also stated, another group of soldiers had gathered near the border checkpoint in sis in Afghanistan.

The Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry said 84 Afghan soldiers did not try to fight back when Uzbekistan border guards detained them. The soldiers, the ministry explained, were instead seeking medical help.

“The government of Tashkent also provided humanitarian assistance to a group of Afghan soldiers who had gathered on the Afghan side of the Termez-Khairaton bridge,” the ministry said, as reported by Al Arabiya on Sunday (15/8/2021).

“Uzbekistan is in talks with Kabul to return troops home and resolve the situation on the bridge,” the foreign ministry said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban have managed to encircle Kabul, apparently forcing the Afghan government to “surrender”. Afghanistan’s acting Interior Minister Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal meanwhile said Kabul would not be attacked and the transition would be peaceful.
