Uzbek received 40 life sentences and another 1,368 years for a terrorist attack on a Turkish club

Masharipov initially confessed to the crime, but later denied the charges and demanded that the court acquit him. According to the AP, he claimed that his confessions were forced by investigators by “coercion and torture”. He is therefore expected to appeal against the verdict.

Masharipov attacked the luxury club Reina during the New Year’s Eve celebrations – in the early morning hours of January 1, 2017. In about seven minutes, he fired six magazines in the club and fired 180 shots.

39 people did not survive the massacre, most of them tourists from Middle Eastern countries. Almost eighty other people were injured. The terrorist managed to escape in the confusion and was caught by the police two weeks later. The Islamic State organization claimed responsibility for the attack.
