UVC Holding Graz Secures Second Win in Powerfusion VL Men Season

UVC Holding Graz also won its second powerfusion VL Men game of the season. The Murstadt team prevailed on Sunday in the Johann-Pölz-Halle against hosts VCA Amstetten NÖ in a thrilling 144 minutes 25:23, 22:25, 26:24, 33:31.

At the start, Graz surprised with a sweeping victory over runner-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, meaning they have six points. Amstetten, however, has not yet been able to write. The top scorers were Samuel Jackman (32) and Yousri Anegay (11) and Johannes Kratz (19), Benedikt Sablatnig and Arwin Kopschar (13 each).

Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel won the first ORF SPORT + live game in the powerfusion VL Men regular season 22/23. The Northmen had the upper hand at UVC McDonald’s Ried in the tie-break (25:15, 22:25, 19:25, 25:15, 15:10) and got their first points at the end of the second round.

The Northmen started strong, were able to break away early and confidently win the first set. Things also went well for them in the second (13:11). But suddenly sand came into play at Waldviertel, while the Rieders became stronger and stronger. After 57 minutes it was 1:1. The momentum remained on the home side, and the third round was a pretty one-sided affair. However, Waldviertel managed a fantastic comeback in the fourth set, went from 6:5 to 12:6 and managed to equalize in a convincing manner. The tie-break was an open exchange of blows – until 8:8. The guests gained the decisive advantage with five points in a row. After 136 minutes, a service error gave Waldviertel a 3-2 away win.

“We saw two teams at eye level in front of a great backdrop. Normally I’m not happy after defeats, but today both teams put on a great show. The spectators were enthusiastic, it was advertising for our sport,” explained VCA sports director Michael Henschke.

The first three sets were extremely exciting, but the fourth round was particularly tough. Several times the home team was only one point short of the tie-breaker. “We fought and presented ourselves well. Unfortunately, victory was not yet achieved. We will work on our mistakes and the first points will follow,” said coach Tomas Galimberti. VCA Amstetten NÖ loses to Graz after marathon match

After two and a half hours of volleyball battle, VCA Amstetten NÖ had to admit defeat to former champions UVC Holding Graz 1-3 in their first home game in the second round of the Powerfusion Austrian Volley League Men. The Styrians had the happier ending in the fourth set, which was only decided 31-33 for the guests.

“Today we saw two teams at eye level in front of a great backdrop. Normally I’m not happy with defeats, but today we put on a great volleyball show, both teams. The spectators were thrilled by the close fight and therefore it was advertising for our sport and I can only congratulate Graz,” said VCA sports director Michael Henschke.

The guests from Murstadt started the game well, but the Lower Austrians were able to equalize early in the first half and then pulled away a little. After a slight phase of weakness, the Graz team came back and had the upper hand in the decisive phase, taking the lead for the first time with 23-25.

In the second half, the home side were more stable in the well-filled Pölzhalle. After a long period of very balanced play, the Mostviertlers were successful with 25-22 and managed to equalize the set. At the beginning of the third round, the Graz team got off to a lightning start and quickly built up a three-point lead. But the VCA fought back and even earned a set point, which they missed. The Graz team, on the other hand, converted their first to make it 24-26 and take the lead again.

The fourth set developed into a real thriller, with both teams giving each other nothing. So the round went into extra time, where Graz had the better end with 31-33. “We fought and presented ourselves well. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to win today, even if it was very close overall. In the end there were just a few points that decided against us. But we will work on our mistakes and then the first points will follow,” concluded coach Tomas Galimberti.

Next weekend, the Mostviertlers will meet VBC TLC Weiz in the league on Saturday and the HotVolleys in the cup on Sunday.

Erzbergmadln celebrate their first win of the season against Purgstall

The Erzbergmadln Trofaiach Eisenerz clinched their first AVL Women win of the season, winning their home game against ASKÖ Volksbank Purgstall 3-0 (25:22, 25:15, 25:11) in 74 minutes on Sunday evening. The guests got off to a better start (7:3), but were in a losing position from the middle of the first set. Top scorers Iva Papac (9) and Saskia Bisanz (8) and Fiona Ludwig (5) and Yana Piantkovska (4).
