UV has the project ready for the former Ignacio Allende prison in Veracruz – Diario de Xalapa

Beatriz Sánchez Zurita, general director of the Academic Area of Arts at the Universidad Veracruzana (UV), reveals that the project for the Veracruz Cultural Arts Center, in the former “Ignacio Allende” Social Rehabilitation Center, is now ready.

What will be at the Veracruz Cultural Arts Center?

In an interview, he revealed that not only are the plans to relocate the Centro de Iniciación Musical Infantil (CIMI) and the Photography program to this location. It is also expected to host the free art workshops and the Bachelor of Arts Teaching (LENA).

“These four institutions will be in the Center, with the possibility of creating a Faculty of Arts. Why arts? Because in the projection we have, we want there to be dance and theater,” he said, and then pointed out that everything will be phased in.

Although the details will be announced shortly, he considers it an achievement of the UV and of society in general, as it will bring benefits to the new generations, from girls and boys to those who want to become professionals, regardless of age.

Student exchanges

On another topic, the Visual Arts teacher, a disciple of Gilberto Aceves Navarro, expresses the importance of broadening horizons, which is why they are already looking for better mobility opportunities for students enrolled in professional programs.

He points out that although there are already options for internships at other universities, they want to increase the number of beneficiaries who can receive training at national and international institutions.

Regarding the facilities of the Arts Unit located in Xalapa, he mentions that they are also evaluating options to resolve the lack of spaces, and will report on the matter in the short term.

Currently, the organization is celebrating the fact that it has signed an agreement with the Academy of Arts to be able to organize exhibitions, workshops and training for students and academics.

It emphasizes the value of the Academy of Arts, as an institution that brings together the most important agents involved in artistic production and its study.

As part of the 80th anniversary of the UV, Beatriz Sánchez Zurita invites the university community and the general public to learn about the different activities that can be enjoyed in the last two months of 2024.

He mentions the recent National Dance Meeting in Xalapa, and the International Jazz Festival-UV, in October.
