Uusimaa in grief after mother’s death:

National team goalkeeper Ørjan Håskjold Nyland shared a post on Sunday Instagram, in which he writes that his mother has died after a long illness.

– This has been the hardest year of my life so far. Especially the last few weeks have been very tough. My mother has been very ill, and in the end there were no more possible treatments, writes the Bournemouth goalkeeper.

Nyland is happy for the support from his wife, family, friends, teammates and the club through the difficult times.

– She passed away after the match against Reading last weekend. Then she was with my father, brother and family, writes Nyland.

– I know that you will always be with me, and you will always have a place in my heart, the former Hødd and Molde player adds.

Nyland joins the national team squad on Monday. Ståle Solbakken took the initiative to send goalkeeping coach Frode Grodås to Volda last week.

– It hurts for us, but of course most for Ørjan and his family. Ørjan has said that the pitch is a place he relaxes in this whole process, so we have had Frode (Grodås) up with him in connection with him being at home at his mother’s funeral, says the national team manager on VG’s questions.

Frode had three or four sessions with him. Ørjan landed at Gardermoen today and took the bus straight to Åråsen, so he is completely ready to participate. It is of course something he has to decide on, but he has said that he is very happy to compete for that place, and he does not feel there is any obstacle to training and playing matches, Solbakken continues.

Against Turkey and Montenegro last month, Nyland played both matches in the absence of Rune Almenning Jarstein and André Hansen. For the gathering against Latvia and the Netherlands, however, André Hansen is back, but Solbakken says he has not decided who will play the two fateful matches.

– Frode has said that the sessions have gone well, and Ørjan has had a focus there. He has been very happy that we took that initiative. It was up to Ørjan, says Solbakken.
