The Utrecht authorities are preparing for possible disorder, due to a demonstration of ‘Netherlands in Revolt’ scheduled for today, which was banned this week.
The police have information that “large groups of rioters from various backgrounds want to use the demonstration to come to a violent encounter (with the police)”, reports RTV Utrecht.
“This will lead to serious disorders and because the meter and a half cannot be complied with, it will also lead to health risks,” said acting mayor Peter den Oudsten.
‘The Netherlands in Revolt’ explicitly calls on men to come to the city center of Utrecht this afternoon via Facebook. Last minute, a location will be announced on social media where they still want to demonstrate.
“We hope everyone stays at home,” said a police spokesman, saying that the police will keep a close eye on the situation in the city.
