Utrecht Faces Refugees Crisis as Ukrainian Residents Overwhelm City Center

The authorities of the city of Utrecht (Netherlands) spoke about the lack of places in the center for refugees due to the massive influx of Ukrainian residents. This was announced by the mayor of the city, Sharon Dijksma.

“The Utrecht shelter for Ukrainians is overcrowded. In the Netherlands, 99% of shelters are occupied. If additional reception points are not created, there is a risk of closing the Utrecht crisis shelter for new refugees,” the publication quotes Dijksma as saying NRC Handelsblad.

The publication emphasized that recently, mainly single men who do not want to fight in the army and students from Ukraine have been turning to the refugee center. The crisis center, designed for 100 people, is occupied by twice as many people.

Previously, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, Mikhail Podolyak promised problems Ukrainians who have gone abroad. He did not rule out that criminal cases would be initiated against those who left.
