The motion was submitted in November 2021 by councilors Sungur (DENK), Sturkenboom (Student & Starter) and Van Heuven (Party for the Animals). Mahmut Sungur now says in a response that he is pleased that Utrecht is the first of the four major cities (G4) to take this decision. He thinks it will inspire other municipalities and government agencies and hopes that Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague will soon follow. “And in the meantime, I continue to encourage other government agencies such as the judiciary, police and the Royal Military Police to follow the Utrecht example. This will contribute to greater involvement and confidence in our enforcement authorities,” said Sungur.
