Whoever firmly believed that the way the world was organized could and must be improved found vehement support in the Irish writer Oscar Wilde. “A world map that does not show Utopia is not worth looking at,” Wilde wrote in his essay Socialism and the Soul of Man. In doing so, he formulated a view that could be shared by many, regardless of the point of view from which one looked at the world.
